Obituary of Dan Franklin Matthews
Dan F. Matthews, 85 of the Grafton Road, Brown’s Chapel Community died Monday, October 2, 2017 at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born March 26, 1932 in Hyannis, Nebraska a son of the late Henry Therwell Matthews and Tina O’Keffe Matthews.
Dan was a member of the Blueville Church of Christ, was a United States Army Veteran and was a retired over the road truck driver. During his driving career he drove for Sterling Faucet Company, Owens-Illinois and retired from Over-Nite Transportation Company. He was proud of driving over 4.2 million accident free miles, delivering in all 48 states, Canada, and Mexico. Following his retirement, Dan became the owner and operator of Matthews Auto Sales.
Dan is survived by his wife of twelve years, Bonnie Belcher Matthews, two sons, Franklin L. (Deborah) Matthews and John Mark (Lilly) Matthews both of Morgantown, one daughter Joyce K. (Chuck) Hampton of Ranson, WV, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are Bonnie’s children, James (Renee) Cody and Steve (Edna) Cody both of Marie, WV, Bill (Suzanna) Barr, Jason (Misty) Barr both of Mannington, daughter-in-law Tammy Cody of Blacksville, eleven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Donald T. Matthews and Bonnie’s daughter Shelby McDonald.
The family requests that donations be made to the Halleck Cemetery Association, Rt. 1 Box 296, Independence, WV 26374.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover on Wednesday from 6-8 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service with Evangelist Dan Plum officiating.
