Obituary of Robert "Bob" Bishop

Robert E. Bishop Sr. passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Sundale Nursing Home, where he lived for the last 3 years. Bob was born in Morgantown WV on 29 July 1926, the son of Frank and Mable Bishop. He married Betty J. Taylor in 1945 and they celebrated their 76th anniversary this year. Bob was an Army veteran who served in WWII in the Philippines Islands. After serving in the Army he returned to Morgantown and began a long civilian career with the US Army Corps of Engineers, retiring as the Lockmaster of Opekiska Lock and Dam in 1986. He was a farmer and long-standing member of the Monongalia County Farm Bureau, and enjoyed raising cattle, going to farm equipment auctions, family camping and sightseeing trips, boating, and gospel music. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers, Joe, Harold, Bernard, and Roger, and is survived by his wife Betty, their three sons Robert Jr. (Dorothy), Donald (Donna), and David (Rebecca), and his sister Jean Cowell of Greensburg PA. Bob had 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Special thanks to all the caregivers at Sundale Nursing Home who were such an important part of his final years. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2021 at 10 am at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Pastor Rich Schimansky officiating.
