Possum, I've waited till now because I didn't really want to believe that you are gone. I just talked to you the day before you passed and seen you earlier when scott came into town to visit us. You know you were more than just my friend, you were like my flesh and blood brother. Hours and hours spent on our adventures, the trips and years flew by and I miss those days, I miss you my brother. I hope you and Barry are having a hell of great time fishin’ up in heaven and I hope you save a spot for me! I’m not gonna sit here and tell everyone how much you’ve meant to me, our friendship, hell you’re like a brother, all I’m gonna say is I love ya brother and save me a beer and save me a spot as I’ll see ya next time! Rest Easy my Brother

To the Straight Family,my deepest condolences on the loss of Robbie. He was a friend from years ago and It shocked me to hear this. He was such a funny, kind and caring man who loved fishing. He had a story to tell of each trip he took and the fish he caught. My heart and prayers are with you each.

I had the pleasure of growing up with Robbie in Sugar Grove. As happens, we lost touch but reunited on FaceBook and actually got to spend alittle time catching up in person just weeks ago. I was at Zoar Cemetary attending to my parents and husbands sites and here comes Robbie on the 4-Wheeler. God only knows but I'm blessed to have reconnected again. Spread those wings on high, Robbie. Condolences and prayers to Cindy and all the families.

Robert Straight aka "Possum" was a true character indeed. But he was also a hero by serving our country. A father. A husband and companion. he was much more than that. Ornery absolutely. Stubborn yes. Set in his ways probably. . He was a true friend. He was "the best". Fly with the angels my friend. I will miss you.

Elementary to High School and beyond, Old Friends for Life ! Sitting next to you on the school bus when we both got kicked off cause you pinched me and I screamed; playing together; 4-H and riding bikes thru Laurel Point. Who could forget the big "Barn" party--your send off to the Army. Robbie was a great artist and loved to imitate the sounds of birds. My friend, I'll not say goodbye, Love you all the way to Heaven, Until We Meet Again...Lilly Mae Harvey xoxo

There are no words to say, but I share this poem with my condolences.
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads his white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. He is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch him until, at length, he hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, he is gone."
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. He is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as he was when he left my side.
And, he is just as able to bear his load of living freight to his destined port.
His diminished size is in me -- not in him.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, he is gone,"
there are other eyes watching him coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here he comes!"
God Bless.

There are no words that could ever express what "Possum" meant to me. "I'm the best!" he'd always say. He'd then follow it up with "not sure what I'm best at, but I'm the best at something." We both decided he was the best at being himself. Unique & original there has never been, nor will there ever be another Robbie Straight. So many hours fishing together, chatting online nearly everyday, traveling back roads, drinking beer & just having a good time. My local friends always delighted in my stories of time spent with "Possum." They always thought I was exaggerating, but I was understating most of it so it could be told in mixed company. May flights of Angels sing you to your rest my Brother. You were the best!

Thank you for being my friend Robbie! I'm so blessed to see you just 11 days ago after all these years. The 2 plus hours with you and Eric were a great part of a memorable trip. I just didn't think our hug would be the last one. Always smiling! (Photo credit Eric Rinedour)

Robbie (aka Possum) was well known in the small circles of the Carp Anglers Group. I came to visit in 2016 and stayed a few days. Rob and his friend Doug went out of their way to welcome me and put me onto fish. Rob was struggling a bit to understand me with my thick accent, but Cindy came to the rescue to help with the translation. We had a really good time. I took those pictures...
