Obituary of Barbara Ann Stevens

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Ann Stevens, 92, of Morgantown passed away at Sundale on Friday, March 19. She was born on April 14, 1928 to the late Clyde Dennis and Theresa Nail Dennis. She was a polio survivor and spoke with gratitude for the nurses and clergy at the Sisters of St. Anne in Denver, Colorado, who helped her recover during the Depression. She spent her teenage years in Portland, Oregon. She often spoke of the joys of the swing dances and socials, remembering "In the Mood" as one of her favorites. She later lived in various places in the Southwest. She loved working as a nurse's aide in Morenci, Arizona. Barbara was a caregiver throughout her professional and personal life. After retiring, she cared for her family. Friends and family lovingly remember her as funny, fun-loving, and indomitable---a great conversationalist with a heart for the underdog. She loved the warmth of the Southwest but made friends wherever she went with her charming sociability and accepting, down-to-earth nature. Her family would like to thank the many people and organizations who helped make Barbara's last years the best possible---from her dear friends in New Mexico to her new friends in West Virginia, the Morgantown chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and Amedisys Hospice, at-home caregivers and those at Point Manor Personal Care Home, Harmony of Morgantown, and Sundale Nursing Home. She is survived by her son: Frank Stevens (Rachel) of Bruceton Mills; sister: Cherril Easley of Texas; nieces: Barbara Clay and Dena Laurel; nephew Stanley Easley; and many friends. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Grant Thorup Stevens and sister Dorothy Clay. Due to COVID-19, at this time there will be no visitation or funeral service. McCulla Funeral Home will provide cremation services and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com. Donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association or to March of Dimes.
