James Henry “Jim” Tucker, age 87, of Morgantown, passed away at Pine Ridge Nursing Home in Kingwood on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2020. Jim was born on January 12, 1933 in Wonewoc, WI, a son to the late Freeman and Margaret Tucker.
Jim served in the US Navy during the Korean War as a photographer. He then attended Michigan State University majoring in biology. There he met and married his wife, Sue.
After graduating, Jim taught junior high science and biology for a year in Michigan, and then went to work for the US Public Health Service in Cincinnati, OH for four years. Afterwards, he transferred to the EPA and worked in Rhode Island for two years and later went to the EPA lab in Duluth, MN where he worked for ten years doing electron microscopy. In 1978, he transferred back to the US Public Health Service and worked here in Morgantown at NIOSH doing electron microscopy until his retirement in 1988. Jim loved to fish and loved his dogs and cats.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue; his daughter, Cathy of AK; his son, Mark of Morgantown; his grandson, Branden of FL; and three special friends, Bud Allison of Ashville, NC, and David Spicer and David White of Morgantown.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, 2 brothers-in-law, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation at P.O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
A private family committal service will take place at WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown with full military honors conferred by the US Navy and Taylor County Honor Guard. McCulla Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com
