Zoe “Sis” Avalon Romero, of Morgantown died July 7, 2020 at Home Away From Home Adult Care Facility in Grafton, WV. She was born August 10, 1930 in Hagans, WV; the last surviving member of the late Charles (Charlie) and Jennie Mae Eddy. Zoe was a graduate of the Morgantown High School class of 1948. She enjoyed tending her garden: and was recognized locally for her green thumb. Her plant, flowers and shrubberies were the focus of tours by WVU horticulture classes and she was given awards for local beautification efforts. Earlier in life Zoe was named Mrs. West Virginia in 1966 and competed for the title of Mrs. America in San Diego, CA. During her tenure she developed a great acumen for community relations and community development. She became an ardent community activist the remainder of her life and focused her efforts to ensure greater resources for community development for rural West Virginia-especially to the citizens in the western end of Monongalia County. Some of these include the Mon-County Playground, Mon County Senior Citizens, and a number of community development boards that promoted education and infrastructure development in rural Monongalia County. Sis leaves behind her daughters Pamela Suder and her husband Terry of Smithtown, WV and Pegeen Luzier and her husband Jeffery of Morgantown, WV; sons Robert Levelle and his wife Susan, of Morgantown, WV; and Randall Levelle and his wife Elizabeth of Morgantown, WV, as well as son-in-law Kevin Arnold of Stewartstown, WV; sister-in-law, Lillian Eddy of Grafton one stepdaughter Anita Stanis and her husband Jim, 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Zoe was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin P. Romero and her daughter Penelope Arnold; sisters Irene Fleming and Eloise Lepera; brothers Hubert “Smoke” Eddy, Charles “Reynold” Eddy, Eugene Eddy, and Arnold Eddy and stepson Robert Romero The family wishes to thank the staff of Home Away From Home Adult Care Facility in Grafton, WV, as well as the Amedisys Hospice of Anmore. There were so many other wonderful care providers and each are appreciated. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic family-only gathered at McCulla Funeral Home on Friday July 10 with the burial following. Rev. Kevin Cain officiated the service. Zoe was laid to rest with her husband, Benjamin, at the Rest Haven Memorial Cemetery in Fairmont WV.
