Obituary of Daniel D. Newbraugh
Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Daniel Dale Newbraugh, age 61 , a lifelong resident of Westover, passed away suddenly Thursday, July 23, at his home. He was born July 10, 1954, the son of the late Kelsey Dale Newbraugh and Audrey G. Bellard Newbraugh. He was a proud, hardworking, retired coal miner for Blacksville No. 2 mine, and was currently employed at Sainato’s Electric in Westover.
Danny was a person of many interests and accomplishments. He was a talented musician. If it had strings or keys he could play it. His favorite instrument was the guitar followed by the banjo and fiddle. Other interests included working on old cars, woodworking, remodeling the family home and boating. He excelled in custom automobile painting. There wasn’t a project he couldn’t do. He was noted for his attention to detail and every project was meticulously completed. If it wasn’t right, he didn’t do it.
Danny’s most proud accomplishment in life was his devotion to family and friends. He learned early in life the value and importance of true friendship. Danny had many lifelong friends, all of whom he cherished and loved deeply. He was always ready to help out and never refused a request. Friendship truly meant everything to him.
Danny loved nature and being outdoors. He could be found during the summer on their boat enjoying everything around him. That enjoyment extended to his home and all the animals he shared his life with – both domestic and wild. The backyard was always filled with birds who were lucky to find the many birdfeeders he had placed close to the back porch.
His pets were the luckiest animals of all. Danny truly cared for each and every one and they never wanted for anything. He was preceded in death by his dogs Diamond Blue and Nikota and his cats Max, Griz, Sheena, and Frosty.
He is survived by his beloved wife Yolonda “Lonnie” (Mason) Newbraugh. Of all the many enjoyments he had in life, nothing meant more to him than the 21 years they spent together. Whether cruising on their boat, staying at their camp, frequently traveling to Amish Country Ohio, watching old movies, or simply spending time together working on their home, he considered each and every moment precious. Everyone who knew him, knew how much he cared for her. Lonnie was truly the love of his life and their mutual love and respect will last forever.
In addition to his wife “Lonnie” he is survived by two sisters Karen Grafton and husband Tom of Lookout , WV; and Deb Menear Corley and husband Denver of Kingwood; along with several nieces and nephews.
Cremation services will be provided by McCulla Funeral Home. The family will receive friends, along with their fond memories and stories, at the McCulla Funeral home on Monday, July 27 from 3-5 & 7-9 pm. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am with the Rev. Dr. Gary Helms and Chaplin Rick Price officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
