Obituary of Jackie Keener
Please share a memory of Jackie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jackie Keener, Age 67, of Morgantown, WV, succumbed to one final shark attack, or maybe not, you all know how he liked to tell stories about his missing arm. He spent the last month of his life laughing, telling amazing stories, watching the history channel, coming up with conspiracy theories- (most likely the cause of the heart attack), and enjoying his grandchildren- completely unaware that his life would end too soon.
He was born on April 2nd, 1954, a cold day in Frankenthal, Germany, the only son of Jackie and Erika Keener (both deceased) of Frametown, WV.
Jackie graduated from Braxton County High School and voluntarily enlisted in the US Army. He was stationed in Baum, Germany and acted as a medic for those injured in the Vietnam War. He went on to become an entrepreneur, an amateur horticulturalist, a rocket man, an antique collector, and a legend in his own right. Those who knew him can still hear his laugh.
He is survived by his loving wife Teresa of Morgantown; his daughter Jennifer Ellen of Charleston, her partner, Jason, and her children and her sister Elizabeth’s children: Tristan, Machaela, Erik, Rhiannon, Rodney, Zuriah and Hazel. He is survived by his daughter, Jillian Eve of Nashville, TN and her children, Aidan, Aliahs, Lillan Faye, and one on the way; daughter, India Henline & husband, Bryan, of Weston and their sons, Lance, Samuel, and one on the way; his son, Jacob, and his partner Lauryl of Morgantown and his grandson Kayden and one on the way; step-son, Daniel and his wife Sheena Currence; son, Jason and his partner Billie Joe; daughter, Brittany and her partner Frank and her children, John Daniel, Eva Grace, Isabella and Zoey.
Jackie Keener was the best father, grandfather, and friend. You couldn’t shock him. The more sordid and amazing the story you were telling- the better. He enjoyed his life and lived like no other. He taught us all the joy of classic Rock-N-Roll, often singing over the lyrics and pointing out his favorite parts. “Turn it up!” He was half deaf by the end of his life, and because of the loud music, most of us are too- and, we are thankful for every moment we spent with the rocket man. We remember him as he completes his journey through the heavens, Per Aspera Ad Astra (through hardships, to the stars).
We will celebrate his life at a military graveside service at Braxton County Cemetery. Details will be be released as arrangements are made for a future date.
Donations in his honor may be made to
