Obituary of Harriet Louise Friend

Harriet Louise Tichenor (Nan) Friend age 96 of Morgantown passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020 and joined her loved ones who were waiting on her arrival in Heaven. Harriet was born March 15, 1924 in Phillipi a daughter of the late Joseph William Tichenor and Vida May Allen Tichenor. Harriet married her high school sweetheart, Glenn Irving Friend on October 19, 1940 who preceded her in death on August 18, 1967. Harriet is survived by three sons, Glenn Brent Friend and wife Maggie Brumage Friend, The Bishop Joe Ray Friend and wife Reverend Becky Sims Friend, and Randy Michael Friend and wife Kathy Howell Friend, two daughters, Salvation Army Major Linda Louise Adair, and Tami Slusher and spouse Arnold Slusher, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Harriet was preceded in death by two daughters, Salvation Army Major Ginger Sue Friend and Cathy Friend Cox, two sons-in-laws, Salvation Army Major Daniel Adair and Paul Cox. Harriet worked for the Board of Education from 1968 to 1988 as the head cook for Riverside elementary and middle school, where the kids all knew her and called her Nan. A graveside burial service for immediate family was conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 AM by her daughter, Salvation Army Major Linda Louise Friend Adair and her son, The Bishop Joe Ray Friend. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Source at Kingdom: A Community Church, 540 Fairmont Road, Westover, WV 26501.
