Obituary of Frances C. Scotchel
Frances Catalina (Guzzo) Scotchel, 90, of Westover passed away at Mon General Hospital after a short illness on Thursday October 10, 2019. Frances, affectionately known to everyone as Grandma Fran, was born February 26, 1929 and grew up in the tight knit community of Kingmont, WV.
She was always kind and caring and put her family first. She was married to John C. Scotchel in 1948 until his passing in 1993. She and her husband were business owners in Westover. They owned and operated the first Farmers Market later known as Farmers Super Market, the Terrace Motel, Westover Shopping Plaza Apartments and Westover Shopping Center for a period of 70 years Grandma Fran treated strangers and loved ones with the same kindness and love that was ingrained in her heart and soul. She loved to cook and bake and share with family and friends especially through the holidays. Her generosity of spirit was felt by many and all were blessed to know her. Grandma Fran will be missed but her loving spirit will live on in all those who knew her.
She leaves behind son Joseph A. (Joe) Scotchel and wife Constance (Connie) Scotchel of Westover, son John C. Scotchel Jr of Westover, 3 grandchildren Nicole K. Scotchel of Ashburn, Virginia, John C. Scotchel, III and companion Ashley Strickler of Morgantown, Teressa Scotchel-Turner and husband Lester Turner of Westover. Two great grandchildren Layla Turner and Moriah Turner. She also leaves behind a sister Antoinette Marie (Mary Ann) Rossana and husband Phillip (Phil) Rossana of Indialantic Florida and a brother Frank Guzzo and companion Pat Bland of Kingmont, WV, many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Giovanni and Marie Guzzo, husband John Scotchel Sr, sister Rose Guzzo, Brother Tony Guzzo, and grandchild Angela Scotchel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to your favorite charity or kindly keep her in your heart and prayers. The family wants to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and aides at Mon General Hospital emergency room and ICU for their sincere care of Grandma Fran and constant vigilance for her last earthly hours.
Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Monday from 2-8 pm with a 7:30 pm prayer vigil to conclude the visitation. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 10 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Father John DiBacco as celebrant.
