Obituary of William "Bill" Berkshire
William “Bill” Berkshire, Jr., 91, of Westover, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Sunday, April 28, 2019. Bill was born in Fairmont, on July 1, 1927 to the late William R. Berkshire Sr. and Agnes Pearl Cordwell Berkshire.
Bill was drafted into the United States Army during his senior year of high school at Morgantown High School and proudly served his country during World War II, mainly in Europe. Following his service, Bill worked in the concrete and masonry trade, working for Coombs & Hemmann and Community Builders. He later worked and retired from the WVU Health Sciences Center as a painter. He also enjoyed working alongside local law enforcement, serving for more than 30 years as a Morgantown Police Reserve.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Thelma Corbin Berkshire; son: Ryan J. Berkshire; sister-in-law Karen Berkshire; and also many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters: Phylis Skinner and her husband Charles “Dink”, and Erma Massey and her husband Willis “Red”; and a brother Paul H. Berkshire.
Family and friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 1 from 3-5 & 7-9 pm and again on Thursday, from 10 until the 11 am funeral service with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery with graveside military honors conferred by Westover VFW #9916 and WVANG Military Honors, Camp Dawson.
