Obituary of Charles "Chuck" Wesley Gorbey
Charles “Chuck” Wesley Gorbey, 85, of Mt. Airy, MD, formerly of the Booth Community of Morgantown, WV passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Dove Hospice House in Westminster, MD. Chuck was born in Monongah, WV on April 25, 1933 to the late James Wesley Gorbey and Hazel Marie Cremeens Gorbey.
Chuck served his country in the United States Air Force and the United States Navy. Following his service, he worked as a coal miner for Preston Energy and was a member of the Dellslow VFW.
In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed reading, camping, travelling, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and following and arguing politics.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shelby Kirk Gorbey; daughter: Denie Gorbey- Creese and her husband Robert of Mt. Airy, MD; son: Donald Gorbey and his companion Peggy of Frederick, MD; grandchildren: Robby Creese, Samantha Creese, Donald “Buddy” Gorbey, and Joshua Gorbey; step-grandchildren: Trenton and Haven Walker; a great grandson: Carter Mijangos; one sister Carol Ruth Stemple and her husband Gloy of Grafton, WV; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his sisters: Martha Cecanese, Lillian Bissett, Louise Crane, Betty Miker, and Rose Schifano; and his brother, James Gorbey.
The family would like to thank those who are serving as pallbearers: Donald Gorbey, Rob Creese, Buddy Gorbey, Robby Creese, Joshua Gorbey, and Jason Miker.
Friends are invited to gather in support of the family at McCulla Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 26th from 4-7 pm and again on Wednesday from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service. Interment will follow at Enterprise Cemetery in Enterprise, WV with military honors conferred by the Harrison County Honor Guard and Navy Military Honors.
