James Franklin Harper, age 62 of Westover passed away, Monday, July 16, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital.  He was born September 7, 1955 in Parsons, a son of the late Carl Harper and Laura Wilson Harper.

James was a former coal miner and also worked on cars.   He enjoyed sports, especially basketball, football, and NASCAR.

James is survived by his fiancée Candice Austin, two daughters, Kristie Neely and Gracie Harper of Morgantown, one son David Harper of Morgantown, grandchildren Carly, Choley and Kelsie Neely, one sister Sheila Myers and husband Charlie of Myrtle Beach, SC, four brothers, Gene Harper and wife Sandy of Reedsville, Charles Harper and wife Pat of Morgantown, Rick Harper and wife Debbie of Reedsville, and Steve Harper and wife Sandy of Morgantown, two brothers-in-law, Jim Gladfelter of Burnsville and Charles Trompak of Bruceton Mills, and several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by one daughter, Stephanie Harper, sisters, Caron Gladfelter, Mary Trompak and infant Sharon Harper.

Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover from 3-5 & 7-9 pm Wednesday and on Thursday from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service.  Burial will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.mcculla.com
