Obituary of Edward "Ed" Childers

Edward Eugene Childers, age 89, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 at his home with his daughters by his side.  He was born June 23, 1929 in Salem, WV a son of the late Denzil Childers and Texie Marie Cox Childers.

Ed attended Salem College and West Virginia University and was employed by the US Dept. of Energy as a physical science technician for 41 years.  He was a Korean War Veteran, serving with the United States Navy as a corpsman/operating room technician in Portsmouth, VA from 1951-1955.

He was a hard worker and enjoyed helping out and working on the family farm with his brother-in-law. He was also a devoted husband, father, and caregiver, providing wonderful compassionate care to both his in-laws and wife.

Ed was a true family man and a proud West Virginian. He shared his love of the state’s beautiful nature by visiting many state parks with family and friends. Ed’s favorite childhood memories were when his family would take a Sunday drive to picnic and explore at Coopers Rock. He instilled his love of Coppers Rock by sharing the same experiences with his own family and grandchildren.

Ed is survived by two daughters, Kathy Hyman and husband John of Morgantown and Shari Berry and husband Mark of St. Albans; three grandchildren, Kyle Hyman, Ryan Berry and Cameron Berry; one sister, Juanita Spinney and husband Richard of TX; brothers-in-law, Richard Bennett and wife Betty of Fairmont and Jim Seckman of Buckhannon; and his canine companions.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Childers in 2002, and one sister, Wilda Seckman.
