Obituary of Ruby Wilda Cheslock
Ruby Cheslock a lifelong resident of Star City having been born at her parent’s residence on July 1st 1923, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Waclaw, her parents Ellsworth Miner Russell and Leota Oneida Russell and her brother Bernard Odell Russell.
She started life being cared for by a private nurse at home. She missed part of her schooling because of her father’s illness, Parkinson’s disease, spending many hours at his side comforting him before he passed. She graduated from Morgantown High School then started her career.
Ruby worked as a clerk at the A&P Grocery store on High Street during World War II and remembered walking past the USO on High Street to catch the last Star City Bus for home. After the war she married her sweetheart Waclaw, whom she had known since grade school. Spending years working for the A&P then later the Acme Food store. She was a devoted housewife and mother. She also took care of the bookkeeping and finances of their local business Star City Keystone, a full-service gas station, until it closed in 1978 and at the same time she worked as a clerk for the Town of Star City and eventually retiring from that position.
She is survived by her son Robert E. and his wife Cherie and one grandchild Jason R. She also had a close relationship with her husband’s siblings, and enjoyed their visits immensely, especially Eddie and Mariam stopping by frequently; making her feel a part of the family.
She enjoyed baking, especially pepperoni rolls, hermits and peanut butter fudge. Holidays were always filled with sweet treats. She also enjoyed genealogy and history. While working at the Town of Star City she devoted many long hours to the start and development of the Star City Glass Festival.
A special thanks to all of the hospice workers for the excellent care they provided during her illness.
Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road Westover, on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 4-7pm and also on Saturday from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service with Pastor Junius Lewis officiating. Ruby will be laid to rest beside her husband at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens following the service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com
