Obituary of Bonnie Jean Matthews
Bonnie Jean Belcher Cody Barr Matthews age 82 of Morgantown passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 6, 1935 in Maitland, WV a daughter of the late Isaac and Minnie Helvey Belcher.
Bonnie was known for her love of singing and performed at nursing homes and at different music venues. She was a member of the gospel singing group “The Country Gospel Travelers” and was inducted into the Golden Circle Country Music Society. She was also a member of the Blueville Church of Christ in Grafton.
Bonnie is survived by four sons, James (Renea) Cody of Marie, WV, Steve (Edna) Cody of Marie, WV, Bill (Suzanna) Barr of Mannington and Jason (Misty) Barr of Mannington, a daughter-in-law Tammy Cody of Blacksville, step-sons, Jonnie Barr, Ronnie (Sandy) Barr, Lonnie “Lonzo” (Frankie) Barr, Donnie Barr, Frank (Debbie) Matthews, Mark (Lilly) Matthews, step-daughters, Ellen (P.J.) Sickles, and Joyce (Chuck) Hampton, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry “Budgie” Barr and Dan Franklin Matthews, one daughter, Shelby McDonald, one son, Stuart Cody, three brothers and five sisters.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover, from 6-8 pm Tuesday and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service with Evangelist Steve Edwards officiating.
