Obituary of Alberta "Bertie" Lemley Merrifield
Alberta “Bertie” Lemley Merrifield, age 75, of Daybrook, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Ruby Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Bertie was born in Daybrook, WV on August 9, 1942, a daughter of the late Ray Lemley and Drusilla Mae Simpson Lemley.
Bertie was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church and worked in nursing. Her greatest love and passion came as a missionary and nurse in Southern Africa where she shared the gospel and touched many lives.
Bertie is survived by her husband, Thornton L. Merrifield; sons, Delbert G. Lemley of Daybrook and Thornton “John” Merrifield and wife Brenda of Core; daughters, Lynn Russell and husband Timothy of Wadestown and Kerri Nayper and husband Michael of Core; sister, Pauline Gee and husband Dwight of Toledo, OH; brothers, Denzil Lemley and wife Dorothy and Kyle Lemley and wife Paula, all of Daybrook; brothers-in-law, Charles Calvert of Waynesburg, PA and Tom Whorton of Clarksburg; grandchildren, Jennifer Russell, Christopher Russell, Johnny Merrifield, Jessy Merrifield, McKayli Nayper, Bayli Nayper, and Gracie Wilson; and one great grandson, Jacoby Willard.
In addition to her parents, Bertie was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Calvert and Mary Whorton.
Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 4-8pm and on Saturday from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com
