Obituary of Theodore Patrick Betoney Jr.

Theodore Patrick Betoney Jr., age 71 of Morgantown passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at his home. He was born March 2, 1946 in Morgantown a son of the late Theodore Patrick Betoney Sr. and Lelia Doris Mayfield Betoney.

Theodore graduated from Morgantown High School Class of ‘63 and West Virginia University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.  Theodore worked for over 34 years in federal service as a civil and mining engineer for the Soil Conservation Service and the Mine Safety and Health Administration.  He also attended WV Tech for mining engineering classes and worked for many years at several coal companies, with his most recent employment at Murray Energy.  He was also a land surveyor and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.  Theodore loved the outdoors and hunting and was a longtime member of the Pioneer Sportsman’s Club. He also built and raced late-model stock cars, racing at the Morgantown Speedway and other local race tracks.

Theodore is survived by his wife Rita Moore Betoney, one son Patrick Betoney and wife Stacey of Philadelphia, PA, two daughters, Nicole Betoney of Morgantown, and Cathy McMaster and husband Michael of Hagans, two grandchildren Brady and Tyler and one brother, Charles Betoney and wife Elizabeth Jane of Yorktown, Va.
