Butch, Jaye, Nora Lee, and Mike - you all have my deepest sympathies. Uncle Jim was always so very kind to me and I always loved talking with him. He was so smart and but always humble. He loved his God, his family, and his animals, and that was very evident. One time when he came to visit, I took him out to meet my Belgian mare Lady. I used to hitch and drive her, but my kids came along, Lady no longer had her previous "girlish" figure and had gained a pound or two. I said, "She's awful poor, ain't she Uncle Jim?" He laughed and I am sure he could have told me a few things about needing to hitch my horse again, but he was kind and held his tongue! I had to use a bioplastic harness because I was not strong enough to lift a leather work harness on my own and he did not put me down for that. I do so very much appreciate the time that I was able to spend with him. He was a rare treasure. Heroes take many forms and Uncle Jim was a hero for the man, father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and neighbor that he was. I have no doubt that he is enjoying the company of Aunt Laura as well as many others again, and probably has already hitched a wagon or two!! I know you miss him terribly, but carry on his legacy and all will be well.
