Obituary of Tonjia L. Lambert

Please share a memory of Tonjia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Tonjia Lee Lambert, 71 of Morgantown, West Virginia joined her mother and grandparents in heaven on June 25, 2017.  She died at Ruby Hospital in Morgantown as the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident two weeks earlier.

Tonjia was born in Weston, West Virginia on October 15, 1945 the only daughter of Helen Madelo Lambert. She was preceded in death by her mother on May 22, 2017 and by her grandparents, Scott and Esther Lambert, all of whom she loved dearly.  Tonjia is survived by two brothers, David Lambert and wife Carol of Bethesda, Maryland and Michael Lambert and wife Diane of Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Her passing has left a giant hole in their hearts and lives.  She is also survived by her aunt, Virginia Smith of Jane Lew, her niece Heather Lambert (Casey Porter) and her grand-nephew Elias Porter, of Ithaca, New York.

Tonjia graduated from Weston High School with the class of 1963 and from the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City in 1977.  Prior to joining the FAA, she worked for West Virginia University and the US Department of Treasury.  She had a long and successful career with the FAA, serving at Flight Service Stations in Erie PA, Morgantown and Elkins, WV.  After retiring from the FAA, she worked at Tri-Ag Federal Credit Union and after retiring there was elected to the Credit Union Board of Trustees where she continued to serve.

Tonjia was one of those rare individuals for whom it can truly be said that she lived her life in service to others.  She made sacrifices in her own life to assure her younger brothers were cared for and successful. She spent years caring for her grandparents and mother during their declining years.  She was the foundation of her family and a loyal and caring friend. She loved to travel, particularly to the beach, and enjoyed exploring the back roads during her travels.  Tonjia was unbeatable in any game or competition that required a quick mind and a treasure trove of knowledge. She loved animals and she and her mother dedicated much of their time to caring for stray and abandoned cats.

Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses and physicians in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Ruby Hospital.  They did everything in their power to assist in her recovery and were kind and supportive of her family and friends during her hospitalization.

The family encourages all who would like to honor her memory to donate to Morgantowncats.com.
