Obituary of Mary Lucille Toothman
Mary Lucille (Rich) Toothman, 90, entered peacefully into her Heavenly home on Friday, June 2, 2017. Born July 31, 1926, she was the last survivor of six children born to the late Harry H. Rich and Eunice Titus Rich.
Mary graduated from University High School in 1945. On September 14, 1946, she married James Lester Toothman, and for more than forty years, the two of them were partners in Toothman Cabinet Shop.
She was a member of Spruce Street United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Wayside Helpers Class. She also belonged to the Westside Civic Club and the Westside Senior Center where she especially enjoyed the Friday night jam session playing her hammered dulcimer with her brother Elmer playing his fiddle. A dulcimer student of the late Patty Looman, she delighted in playing “a little bit of music” with friends all around West Virginia and in Maryland.
Mary is survived by her daughter Sharon (Rodney) Chapman of Westover and her son Richard (Deronda) Toothman of Knightdale, NC.
Nan is also survived by her four grandsons and seven great-grandchildren: Ryan and Janel Chapman and their children: Andrew, Elizabeth, and Ben of Hilliard, OH; Evan and Kimberly Chapman and Makenzie, and Nathan and Holly Chapman and their son Carter of Westover; and Lance and Christal Decker and their children: Wisdom and Trinity of Holly Springs, NC.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mary was preceded in death by five siblings: Rensel, Elmer, Harry (June), Neva, and Frances.
The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the Sundale Staff for their love and excellent care. Mary called room 213 her new home and enjoyed bingo, van trips, concerts at the CAC, dinner out, Shelley Marshall teas, and a favorite field excursion to the Jumonville Cross.
Memorial donations in her name may be made to Sundale Rehabilitation and Long Term Care, 800 JD Anderson Dr. Morgantown, WV 26505 or to the Lunchbox Program, Kingdom Evangelical Methodist Church, 540 Fairmont Rd. Morgantown, WV 26501.
