Obituary of Gloria Gozdzik

Gloria Gozdzik, age 74, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Gloria was born on August 19, 1942 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Walter and Florence Zielinski Gozdzik.
Gloria earned her Ph.D. and worked for many years as the founder and president of Horizon Research Consultants as an archaeology/Cultural Resource Management consultant. She was a former member of the teaching faculty at WVU in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
In her free time, Gloria loved to entertain, as well as to cook for her friends and family. She enjoyed traveling and fine dining; and was known as quite the fashionista. She also had a passion for the arts; attending operas, symphonies, and art galleries.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 34 years, Dr. John H. Penn; children, Rhonda Johnson and husband Roy of North Tonawanda, NY, Kenneth Botham and wife Tammy of Vienna, WV, and Monica Foell and husband J.D. of Ocean City, MD; sisters, Marilyn Boniszewski and Charlene Jackson and her husband Howard; brother, David Gozdzik and his wife Janice; five grandchildren; and one great grandson.
In honoring Gloria’s wishes, McCulla Funeral Home has provided cremation services.
Flowers are respectfully declined, but donations will be greatly appreciated to WV Caring Hospice PO Box 760 Arthurdale, WV 26520.
Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 1-3 pm and 5 -7 pm. A memorial service will take place at 7 pm with Father John DiBacco officiating. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com.
