Obituary of Maria Macario Colasante

Maria Macario Colasante, age 83 of Westover, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2017, surrounded by her family at Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab after an extended illness. Born May 27,1933 in the town of Scanno, located in the province of L’Aquila, Italy, daughter of the late Antonio and Anna Macario. Maria is survived by her husband of 61 years, Eustachio (Steve) Colasante, married in Scanno on August 27,1955. She journeyed to Morgantown in 1956, following her husband, where they later proudly became U.S. citizens and chose to raise their family. She is also survived by her three children, Nick and his wife Brenda of Morgantown, Anthony and his wife Cindy of Morgantown and RoseAnn Colasante Sakr and her husband Khaled of Atlanta, GA. She was affectionately known as “Nonni” to her five grandchildren, Alli and Nicolas Colasante, Domenic Colasante and Nile and Shereef Sakr. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her younger sister. Maria worked at the Morgan Shirt Factory as a seamstress in the 1960’s. Together with her husband and children, Maria was co-owner and operator of Colasante’s Ristorante & Pub, originally Westover Pizza, an Italian restaurant in Westover for 48 years. Her recipes are still being enjoyed. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Parish and enjoyed spending time with family and friends along with cooking, baking and caring for others, taking bus trips and playing bingo. Maria was a cherished wife, mother and grandmother, who loved feeding her family, friends and patrons and will be tremendously missed. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and doctors at Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab, Mon General Hospital System and WVU Medicine and Cardiology for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Maria Colasante’s memory may be made to either St. Ursula Food Pantry & Outreach, PO Box 18, Pursglove, WV 26546 or Christian Help, 219 Walnut Street, Morgantown, WV 26505. Friends and family will be received at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown on Thursday, March 2nd from 2-4 & 6-8 pm with a vigil service at 7:30 pm to conclude the visitation. Visitation will continue on Friday, March 3rd from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial accorded by Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, pastor of St. Francis de Sales. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.mcculla.com
