Millard D. “Bud” Brock, 87, of Morgantown formerly of the River Road was taken to his eternal home in Heaven where his wife, Ruby, has been awaiting his arrival on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Mapleshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Bud was born in National, WV on February 9, 1930 to the late Paul Millard Brock and Nora Elizabeth Muster Brock. Bud was a 1948 graduate of Morgantown High School and served his country proudly as a veteran of the United States Navy, serving at the conclusion of World War II and during the Korean War. Following his service, Bud was employed as a general mine foreman for Consolidation Coal Company, Humphrey #7 ; where he led the last twelve miners out of the Humphrey Mine fire in 1969. He later retired in 1985 after thirty years of service. He then worked for the Monongalia County Board of Education as a school bus driver for fifteen years. Bud was a former member of the Booth-Union United Methodist and was a life member of the VFW Post # 548. In his earlier years, Bud enjoyed camping, travelling to NASCAR races, but most of all, he enjoyed cookouts, spending time with his family and catching up with what was going on with each of them. Bud leaves behind his seven children: Debbie Coombs and her husband John, Nora Wierbonski and her husband Stephen, with whom he made his home for the last four years, Ellen Harker and her husband Michael, all of Morgantown; Paul Brock and his wife Janet of Westover, Tom Brock and his wife Miriam, John Brock and his wife Dawn, and Greg Brock and his wife Autumn, all of Morgantown; 20 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bud was met at Heaven’s gate by his sweetheart, Ruby Virginia Brock, who passed away on January 24, 2015; and two brothers Arthur I. Brock and Eldon P. Brock. The family wishes the extend a heartfelt thanks to Mapleshire, Amedisys, Senior Monongalians, and the Veterans Administration for all of the care and assistance given to Mr. Brock during his time of need. , Friends are invited to gather in support of the family at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Rd., on Wednesday, February 15th from 5-8 pm and on Thursday, February 16th from 12 until the 1 pm funeral service with Pastors Craig Falkenstine and Joe Peters officiating. Bud will be laid to rest next to his wife at Arnettsville Cemetery following the service with full military honors conferred by Westover VFW #9916 and Navy Military Honors.
