Shirley A. Hawkins Tennant, age 81, of Westover, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Home Away From Home in Grafton. Shirley was born in Core, WV on August 5, 1935, a daughter of the late Robert and Lucille Henderson Hawkins. Shirley graduated from Clay-Battelle High School and worked for the Monongalia County Board of Education, and later retired from West Virginia University as a secretary. She was a member of the Westover United Methodist Church but most recently attended Dolls Run Christian Church in Core. Shirley is survived by her sons, Scott R. Tennant of Lebanon, OH and Keith A. Tennant of Westover; grandson, Alexander Robert Tennant of Morrow, OH, of whom she was very proud; dear friends, Kim Hughes and Mike Ashburn and wife Jane; and several cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Tennant; three infant sons; special friend, Elmer L. Ashburn, Jr., and all of her aunts and uncles. Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 25, from 3-5 & 7-9 pm and on Thursday from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service with Pastor Jerry Teter officiating.
