Betty Irene “Grammie” Morris went to be with the Lord on the early morning of January 16, 2017 at the age of 91. She leaves behind a legacy of love and family. Betty was born at home on October 21, 1925 in Shriver Hill, West Virginia where she remained until her death. She graduated from University High School in 1943, and spent 15 years working in the school’s cafeteria where she retired in 1987. On July 22, 1946 Betty married Olen Hugh Morris – a coal miner – and they raised eight children. After Olen’s death, Betty met Argyle Bonnett, a friend with whom she spent many years. Although she never learned to drive, Betty never stopped moving. When she wasn’t working, and then after her retirement, Betty could be found bowling, baking her famous pepperoni rolls and honey buns for tailgates and family fun nights, dancing at the local VFWs, gardening, watching her grandchildren, or caring for some of the many animals that found their way to her front porch. Betty was also an ardent Mountaineer and Steelers fan, and rarely missed a game on television. In her downtime, Betty could be found sitting in her favorite chair, watching her “programs,” holding her cat Dolly, reading the newspaper cover to cover and holding court amongst her many family members. She had a tremendous sense of humor, along with an ornery streak, which kept everyone laughing and on their toes. Betty was the cornerstone of her family, and was beloved by her eight children, dozens of grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Andy and Lizzie Gall (Duffer), her husband Olen Hugh Morris, her friend Argyle Bonnett and her brothers George Duffer, Steve Duffer, Frank Duffer and Bill Gall. Betty is survived by all eight of her Children: Ronald Morris and his wife Linda Lee of Morgantown, West Virginia; Marlene Shobe of Houston, Texas; Madeline Kay Stephens of Morgantown, West Virginia; Andrew Morris and his wife Beverly of North Carolina; Howard “Weasel” Morris and his wife Linda Sue of Core, West Virginia; Patricia Jean Antion and her husband Bob of Morgantown, West Virginia; John Morris and his wife Sandy of Morgantown, West Virginia and her youngest Barbara Tennant and her husband Terry of Hawaii along with her grandchildren and great-children, who are too numerous to name. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s name to the University High School Foundation Inc. by mailing a check to 131 Bakers Ridge Road Morgantown, West Virginia 26508. Betty will be missed by all. Friends are invited to gather in support of the family at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 308 Elmhurst St., Morgantown, WV, on Wednesday, January 18, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and again on Thursday, January 19th from 10 until the 11 am funeral service with Pastor Bruce Rzengota officiating.
