He was a Promise Scholarship recipient and attended West Virginia University. He was the owner of PJ Services in Morgantown and a carpenter by trade.
He is survived by his parents, Mike and Pat Johns, his son, Christian Kenneth Ayers, brothers Anthony Johns and Michael Verbosky, and sister Rebecca Verbosky Kerns (Dave). He is also survived by his beloved grandmother Jean Johns, Aunt Michaelle (Jeff) Haye, Uncle Scott (Tami) Johns, cousins, Ian, Luke and Lauren Haye, Shakira Smith (Danny) and Melissa (Richard) Harper, and his special friend, Monica Menze, plus many more loving family members and friends.
Patrick was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Sheila Pauley, paternal grandfather Raymond ‘Bud’ Johns and his Aunt Tracee Smith.
Patrick was our ‘lefty’ who had a great ability to think outside the box which made him a very creative young man. He loved sports and played soccer, baseball, wrestling, basketball and later softball. He last played softball for the Morgantown Sober Living team, who didn’t have a winning record but had a winning spirit!
Patrick was a kind and gentle soul with a wonderful smile, passionate nature, fun personality, and caring heart and with a wonderful ability to make people laugh! Even while fighting his own demons he was able to help others fight theirs.
Many beautiful tributes from Patrick’s friends and family were made on Facebook. Some of the ones that that stand out are those that plead that Patrick did not die in vain and that help will be readily available to all who are in need.
Friends will be received by the family at McCulla Funeral Home on Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 4 – 7 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at 7 pm at McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. McCulla Funeral Home has provided cremation services.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Patrick’s memory to Morgantown Sober Living, Inc., 206 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV 26505.
