Valetta McGovern, age 85, of Westover, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Mon General Hospital. Valetta was born in Osage on June 29, 1931, a daughter of the late John Leo and Margaret Elizabeth Shiel McGovern. Valetta worked for many years at Montgomery Ward in Inventory Control and was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, Valetta was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Margaret McGovern Haley; brother, John Leo McGovern, Jr.; nephews, James Matthew Haley, III and Thomas Edward Haley, Sr. Valetta is survived by her nieces and nephews, Mary Margaret (Peggy) Haley Donovan, John Terence Haley, Kathleen Haley, Joseph Luke Haley, John Leo McGovern, III, Mary Kay McGovern Gaspard, Kelly Patrick McGovern, and Dru Erin McGovern Robinett; several great nieces and nephews; and many friends and family who will miss her dearly. Friends may gather at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown, on Saturday from 10 – 11 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis de Sales on Saturday at 11 am with Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, STD, VE as celebrant. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
