Obituary of Julia "Sue" Sidwell
Please share a memory of Julia "Sue" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Julia "Sue" Sidwell, age 84, of Westover passed away peacefully in her home with family by her side on Monday, April 25, 2016. She was born July 25, 1931 in Morgantown, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Pollack Pompura.
Sue was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and an active member of the CRHP group. She enjoyed serving others in her church community and helped regularly with the children’s group during mass. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Westover VFW Post #9916 and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. Sue valued meeting with families who emigrated from Slovakia to share culture, faith, and fellowship.
Sue was the ultimate wife, homemaker and real-life supermom, and as her children grew she also worked for Coombs Florist and One Valley Bank in Westover. Sue was the heart and soul of her family and was passionate about caring for, feeding, and spoiling everyone. She loved to dote on all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she truly treasured. She also enjoyed spending hours talking, shopping, and visiting with friends and family, especially her sisters. Some of her many hobbies included cooking, baking, dancing, gardening, and bowling.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Susan Pollard and husband Gary, and Tammy Regnier and husband Bud; one son, Bruce Sidwell and wife Mindy; two sisters, Helen Mandarano and husband Bruno, and Beatrice Prutilpac and husband Chuck; three sisters-in-law, Helen Pompura, Dee Pompura, and Barbara Cobun; nine grandchildren, Jason Regnier and wife Sumer, Mandi Laurita and husband Jimmy, Kyle Nicholson and wife Kalyn, Josh Regnier, Sarah Sidwell, Bruce Sidwell II, Ceranda Jones, Jenna Sidwell, and Sophie Jones; and three great-grandchildren, Paige Nicholson, Evie Laurita, and Colson Laurita; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, George “Bud” Sidwell; one son, George “Buddy” Sidwell, Jr.; four brothers, Joseph Pompura, John Pompura, Andrew Pompura, and Michael Pompura; and three sisters, Margaret Slavinsky, Rose Shepherd, and Ann Walden.
Friends and family are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Sunday, May 1 from 2-5 pm. Visitation will continue on Monday, May 2 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial with Father Andrew Switzer as celebrant. Following the mass, Sue will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Bud, at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. After the burial, all are welcome to join the family for a luncheon in honor of Sue at St. Mary’s Peace Hall. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mcculla.com
