Obituary of Mary Jane DeVault
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Jane (Hickman) DeVault, 82, of Morgantown, West Virginia, passed away Friday morning, April 1, 2016.
Her legacy is best defined by the family she cherished and raised, as well as her powerful faith in God and dedication to being a good person, and all that this meant for those she touched in her time among us.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William Dennis DeVault, who passed away in 2014. She was deeply affected by the Brad Paisley song "Waiting on a Woman" and fully expects to be reunited with her husband in Heaven.
After graduating University High School in 1952, she briefly worked in the Morgantown area before marrying and proceeded to travel around the country as an Air Force wife, before settling back in the Morgantown area in 1966.
She worked as a seamstress, including a prolonged stint with the Floradora Shop, and ran her household with a fierce and patient devotion to her children and an unshakeable faith in her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. She contributed time as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Red Cross.
She leaves behind her children; Robert Dennis DeVault, 62, a Systems Administrator and CNA retired recently from West Virginia University; William Francis DeVault, 60, an author and management consultant; David Allen DeVault, 56, a Anne Arundel parks ranger; Rebecca Lynn (Becky) McDonald, 52, a nursing supervisor for Wytheville Regional Hospital; and Mark Thomas DeVault, 50, a systems analyst for Mylan Pharmaceuticals; as well as 16 grandchildren and 8 great-children.
Mary was born to Lanty Stuart Hickman and Glada Virginia (Fink) Hickman, the younger of 2 children. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother; Robert Lawrence Hickman. She survived polio as a child and this fed her drive to overcome all obstacles with faith, grit, and grace.
