Obituary of Raymond E Hawkins

Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Raymond E. Hawkins, 92, of Stewartstown community, bid farewell to this world on Sunday, August 6, 2023 and went home to be with his Savior and to be reunited with many loved ones gone before. He was born in Hagans, WV and was the son of Elza and Bertha Guesman- Hawkins. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Freda; 10 adoring children: Becky Davis (Jim), Lonnie Hawkins (Ingrid), Anita Jaggie (Dave), Charlotte Higinbotham (Ricky), Leona Newlin, Randy Cottrell (Nancy), Debbie McDermott (Rob), Peggy Ruckle (Roger), Rick Cottrell (Sharon), and Cathy Snider (Gary); 32 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. Oh how he loved them all and how they loved him. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 28 years, Patty; six siblings: Annalee (Tubby), Lewis, Betty, Perry, Frank and Roger, son-in-law, Bill Newlin and two grandchildren. Ray was a long-distance tractor trailer driver for 30 plus years and then opened his own small engine repair shop. Ray loved God, loved his family, and was a proud American. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, whittling, and taught himself how to make the most beautiful and unique walking canes and wooden rings that are now all over the country. His greatest joy was spending time with his family that loved him beyond measure. He could tell a story like no one else, and will forever be remembered for his quick wit and fun-loving nature. Ray loved to talk about Jesus, and his porch was the setting for many loving conversations about how good and faithful his Lord was and always had been. Ray will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him, but it was a happy reunion day in heaven. Friends may call at Kingdom A Community Church, 540 Fairmont Road, Westover from 4-7 pm Thursday and on Friday from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am celebration service with Pastor Jeremiah Bostic officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery. McCulla Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com.
