Obituary of Roger Toffle

Roger Toffle passed away on April 9, 2023, at age 74.
Roger was born February 4, 1949, in Bemidji, Minnesota, the son of the late Howard and Ida Toffle. At age 4, the family moved to Boy River, Minnesota, where he attended elementary school. He graduated from Remer High School, Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in Minneapolis. While in Medical School he joined the United States Navy and did his Internship and Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Naval Regional Medical Center, San Diego. Following a four-year tour at NRMC Naples, Italy, he returned to the University of Minnesota to do a Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology. He joined the faculty of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at West Virginia University in August of 1984, serving in varying capacities, and retired as a Professor Emeritus. He continued in the Naval Reserve, was recalled to active duty during Operation Desert Storm, and retired as a Navy Captain in 1995.
While in the military he served as a youth and high school wrestling coach, wrestling referee, and coached military football and basketball teams. After moving to Morgantown, he served as a youth hockey coach, a USA Hockey Midget boys and girls coach in Morgantown and Pittsburgh and was actively involved in WVU Hockey including coaching the Division II ACHA men’s team. More recently, he volunteered with the WVU OEDC’s West Run Woods trail system.
He is survived by his spouse and partner Connie Curtis Toffle, two daughters, Sommer Toffle and spouse Barrett Goddard of Ligonier, Pennsylvania, and Allison Toffle of Blacksburg, Virginia, and one son, Jeremy Toffle and spouse Amy of Omaha, Nebraska, five grandchildren (Isla Goddard, Bowie Goddard, Tala Goddard, Gavin Toffle, and Beckett Toffle), one brother, Mark Toffle, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and his life-long friend, Tim Goose, and his spouse Betty of Laporte, Minnesota.
Funeral services to be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Morgantown, WV Sunday April 16, at 3 pm. A larger celebration of life for the community will be held June 4th from 1-3 PM at the WVU Erikson Alumni Center.
