Obituary of Francis McClelland Minor

Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Francis McClelland Minor, son of the late Bailey and Hazel Patterson Minor, died December 22, 2022 at his home. He was 87 years old. He is survived by his wife, the former June Lemley, who he married in 1955. Francis and June had 67 wonderful, loving years together during which they raised their family, gave back to their community and church, and traveled the world. Francis and June are the parents of Randal Minor (Janine), Sandy Osecky (Todd), and Larae Minor (Adam). In addition to his wife and children, Francis is survived by 7 grandchildren, Kristopher (Chelsea) and Matthew Osecky, Daniel Simpson (Dani), Mason (Erika), Quintin and Emerson Minor, and Junie Minor Phipps, two great-grandchildren, Dillon and Reagan Osecky, his sister-in-law, Laura Lemley (Robert), and his nephew, Heath Lemley (Paula). Francis Minor grew up on a farm in Perry Township, as the oldest of six siblings: Wretha Haines (Paul), Blaine Minor (Thelma), Ronald Minor (Martha), Donald Minor (Delores), and Billy Minor (Jackie). Francis loved the farm which has remained in the Minor family since 1846. He spent countless hours working the farm and enjoying it with family and friends. One of his favorite events of the year was the annual Minor Family Reunion. No matter what he was doing or where he was, Francis remained a farmer in his heart. Francis was a graduate of Mt. Morris High School, class of 1954. Following high school, he went to work driving a truck for H.B. Arrison Lumber Company. He then went to work for Baker & Coombs Construction Company where he supervised the construction of many projects around the Morgantown area, including his favorite, the WVU Creative Arts Center. Francis and his partner, Robert Sheets, started their own company, ENCON, in 1975. Among other large construction projects, Francis and Bob were responsible for building several HECKS Department Stores throughout West Virginia and the surrounding states. Francis always cared about his community. He was a volunteer fireman for 65 years with the Mt. Morris Community Volunteer Fire Company, serving during that time as the fire company’s assistant chief, president and trustee. He was a 32nd degree Mason holding several positions with Waynesburg Lodge No. 153. Francis was a member and president of the Greene County School Board. He served on the board of the Westover Bank. He was president of the Cedar Grove Cemetery for many years up till the time of his death. He was a member of the Mt. Morris Methodist Church for all his adult life, serving many years as the church’s financial chair and on the Board of Trustees. Francis and June loved to travel. They spent more than twenty winters in Florida with their fellow snowbirds. They travelled in their RV over much of the lower 48 states. Francis and June went on multiple cruises and tours abroad. Family was everything to Francis. He was the much-loved family patriarch with the right tool for every project or emergency. He was always willing to help out or share practical experiences from a life of hard work. The family wishes to thank the nurses and other staff at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, Dr. Veltri and staff, Rev. Dolo, and the many family and friends who provided much comfort and support to Francis during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mt. Morris United Methodist Church or a favorite charity of choice in honor of Francis. A viewing will occur on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at McCulla Funeral Home from 3-5 and 6-8 PM (Masonic Rites at 6 PM). An additional viewing will occur on December 28, 2022 at the Mt. Morris Methodist Church from 11 AM-12 Noon, with funeral service to follow (Firemen’s service beginning at Noon). Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
