Obituary of Leona M. Zackery

Leona Mae Zackery, 91, of Morgantown, passed away at her son’s home on October 18, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Leona was born in Morgantown on May 8, 1928 to the late Truman and Elvina Panrell.

Leona was a founding member of the Chaplin Church and served the church in many capacities, including trustee. Leona worked as a cook at Cass Elementary and greatly enjoyed working with the children who passed through the school for many years, and was affectionately known as Nonnie.

She is survived by her son: Gayle Eugene Zackery (Amber) of Morgantown; grandchildren: Brooke Clingerman (Jason) and Breanne Zackery, both of Morgantown; great granddaughters: Adeline Bre and Jovie Mae Clingerman; sister: Thelma Panrell Govedich of Morgantown; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her loving husband, Pete Zackery; sister Beulah Panrell Drake; and a brother, Joseph Panrell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Chaplin Church at PO Box 2339 Westover, WV 26502, in memory of Leona.

Friends and family are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Rd., Morgantown on Sunday, October 20th from 1 pm until the funeral service at 3 pm with Pastor Ed Rowan officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery. Online condolences may be extended to the family at ww.mcculla.com
