Obituary of Helen Hupp

Helen Emily Minor Hupp age 92 of Morgantown passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 at Sundale.  She was born April 7, 1927 in Cameron, WV a daughter of the late Charles Minor and Elizabeth Cox Minor.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Elmer Hupp in 2012, whom she married in 1949, her aunt Dessie Cox, in-laws Charles Quay and Anna Danley Hupp, son-in-law, Ted Ehrhardt, sisters, Dorothy M. (Ralph) Mendenhall and Martha M. Wiren Boldizar (Earl/Joe), sister-in-law, Luella Hupp Caldwell (Alva), two nieces, Mary Wiren and Sue Kelley, and nephew Richard Caldwell.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Hupp and Emily Ehrhardt Dadisman (George), grandsons, Derrick Ehrhardt (Piper) and Brett Ehrhardt, great granddaughters, Penelope and Addison, nephews, Charles Mendenhall (Karen) and Chuck Caldwell (Yamile) and nieces Alice Apathy (Kevin), Alane Dey, and Judy Caldwell, along with numerous great nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Helen graduated from Cameron High School in 1945 and West Liberty State College in 1949, where she was a member of Iota Psi Alpha (now Chi Omega), was secretary-treasurer of the Senior Class, chairman of the Women’s Governing Board and listed in Who’s Who among students in colleges and universities.

Helen began teaching in a one-room school with eight grades at Adaline in Marshall County.  She also taught at Limestone, Pleasant Valley and Cameron Elementary in Marshall County retiring after 32 years.

In Cameron, she was a member of the First Christian Church, serving as Elder, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and in the Christian Women’s Fellowship.  She also helped with the monthly dinners held at the church and continued doing that for many years after moving to Morgantown.  She was active in CHS Band parents, a member of the Order of Eastern Star (Loraine Chapter # 9), the Women’s Club of Cameron (GFWC), CHS Alumni Association (attending the annual banquet each year until this year), the American Legion Post # 18 Auxiliary, and WV State Retired Teachers Association.

In Morgantown, she was a member of the First Christian Church, serving in the Diaconate, Outreach Committee, and the Disciples Women’s Fellowship, faithfully taking part in the monthly Sundale Bingo Outreach.  She enjoyed water aerobics at Lakeview, followed by trips to Apple Annie’s in Pt. Marion.  She made delicious butterscotch pies, Milky Way cakes, ham loaf and spaghetti. She loved going to North Myrtle Beach with the Wright clan for many summers and visiting former Cameron folks with several other Cameron couples.

According to her wishes, Helen donated her body to the WVU Human Gift Registry.  Friends may call on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the First Christian Church, 100 Cobun Ave., Morgantown from 1:30 until the 2:30 memorial service with Pastor Bob Roberts officiating.  Following the service a reception will be held in the church fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either First Christian Church, 7 North Ave., Cameron, WV  26033 or First Christian Church 100 Cobun Ave., Morgantown, WV  26505.  McCulla Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com
