Obituary of Betty Jean Light
Betty Jean Light, 84, of Westover, passed away at Mon Health Medical Center on March 31, 2019. Betty was born in Ingram Branch, WV on January 1, 1935 to the late William and Eva Grabowski Chornobay.
Betty was very involved in her community and took her civic duty to give back very seriously, as she spent over 54 years volunteering her time and energy serving on various committees. She was involved in the PTA, serving as the president for Riverside, Scout Leader, and Community Association president, Civic Club, Woman’s Club of Westover, served on the Recreation Commission for 19 years, and participated in the fair committee. Betty was very active in politics and enjoyed working the polls for elections and serving as president of Young Democrats. She was also heavily in involved in starting the Westover Senior Center; serving as president, vice president, and on the board of the Senior Center for many years.
She also worked at the WVU College of Law bookstore and for the Medical Center downtown.
Betty is survived by her daughter: Kimberly Friend (Ray) of Lakehills, TX; sons: Bradley Light (Deborah) of Greensboro, NC and Gregory Light (Susan) of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Sarah Friend, Amber Fitts, and Allison Light; great grandchildren: Olivia Friend, Landon Fitts, and Lucas Fitts; sisters: Diane Heath and Sandy Chornobay; brother Ed Chornobay; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her first husband Bill Light and her second husband Lyle Haines; her son: Jeffrey Light; and brothers: John, William, Clarence, and Tommy Chornobay.
The family wishes to thank a special family friend, Delores Matheny for all of her love, care, and friendship over the years.
Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Rd., Westover on Thursday, April 4th from 4-7 pm. A vigil service will be held to conclude the visitation at 6:30 pm. A memorial mass will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Friday, April 5th at 10 am with Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, STD, VE. A private family graveside service will be held at Beverly Hills Cemetery. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.mcculla.com.
