I was able to work with David several times while he was at the BLM office in Roswell, NM. David was always very polite and his knowledge was exceptional. I always knew he would have the answer when I had a question. He will be greatly missed by the oil and gas industry.

Afterglow
Helen Lowrie Marshall
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

Thank you David Glass for your soft spoken kindess. I remember, i tended to work late but I didn't like to be the last person leaving the office, so when you and I would be last to leave, I remember telling you, please let me know a few minutes before you leave so I have time to shut down and We would leave the office at the same time. I remember watching you ride away on your bicycle. May you enjoy riding your bicycle in heaven, you'll shed no more tears. God Bless you David Glass. Rip.

I have had the pleasure of working with David on numerous fires. He was a great team member and will be sorely missed by the fire community in the future. My condolences to the family and the Roswell community on their loss.
David impacted many lives over the years and his input and guidance will be with for many years to come. Go in peace David.

Diane, I have to add, my kids play music together and we have always been fond of country music. For the past month they have been harmonizing and practicing John Denver's song Country Roads. It dawned on me today, they have been singing, "take me home, country roads, to West Virginia". So suitable for Dave. Its a beautiful song.

Diane, I am really saddened to hear of Dave's passing. I sat right next to him for 17 years at the BLM in Roswell. I left the agency about 8 years ago, but we would always visit when we ran into each other around town. I spoke to him only about 3 weeks ago over the phone as he was helping me find some information about a well. I looked up to him a lot as he taught me so much and we shared our engineering philosophy. He opened up to me somewhat about his personal life, which I knew he wasn't one to do so. He told me stories of growing up raising pigs and how a neighbor girl scared the bajeezas out of him as she chased him on horseback through a barn. I also have a sister named susan diane, we thought that as striking. He shared a feat of one of his first engineering challenges as he was assigned to an offshore rig rig in Alaska right out of school. He had to draw up plans to re adjust the settings of a floor blow out preventer on the bottom of the ocean and redesign for the divers to go down and make repairs. We both conversed how some of these projects are not really win the PE curriculum but thank God at least it was covered. He still has his original drawings and plans in his desk at work in Roswell. My family got to know him as well as he came out and helped burn some acreage we have prior to building a home. I asked for his advice how to start and for safety reasons. He said "well.." then picked up a piece of cardboard, lit it with his lighter, then proceeded to walk across the property starting a huge 5 acre fire. We already had the local department on stand by in case things got away, but it burned out and the lot was cleared. That was it. My wife as an RN took care of him as he was recovering from treatment in a local assisted living a couple of years ago. I think he felt relieved a little to see someone he knew come in visit with him, talk about medication and ask how are you feeling. He opened up to her some too, he liked her and Mary liked him a lot. I can remember the very first day I met him, my first day on the job at the BLM, I thought "this guy is crazy". I was right. This is actually a compliment in the world of engineering, as our very smart intellect peers that I have the upmost regards for are "a little crazy". My best friends who worked for the BLM were Doug Hoag, Shannon Shaw and David Glass. They are all gone and I had the upmost regards for all of them. They were all "crazy smart!" With love Gary Gourley.
