Obituary of Gilbert "Rocky" Warren
Gilbert “Rocky” Warren, 72, of Westover, WV, went to be with his Lord Jesus on October 23, 2017.
Born in Wheeling, WV, on July 16, 1945, he was the son of the late Hazel (Hilster) and Gilbert Warren.
He graduated in 1963 from Burnsville High School. He served in the Army from 1963-1968 in both Korea and Japan. Upon being honorably discharged from the Army he was employed at Mylan for a short period of time before being employed by Consolidation Coal Company. He worked for CONSOL at Osage #3 for 27 years until he retired in 1995. During retirement he drove school bus for Mon County for 12 years until 2008.
He was a lifetime member of VFW #548. He was also a member of Crescent Hills Bible Chapel. He enjoyed sharing his love for hunting and fishing with his son and grandchildren. He loved to travel with his wife and family. He was proud to have visited all 50 states with his wife.
Rocky is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan (Slaughter) Warren; two daughters and spouses, Amy and Bub Mercer of Westover; Rachelle and Jeff Bennett of Clearville, PA; and one son and spouse, Chris and Christa Warren of North Huntingdon, PA.
Rocky was “Pappy” to 9 grandchildren, Tyler (and Maddi Sawyer) and Cortney (and Ben Moidel) Mercer; Caleb (and McKenna), Joshua, Josiah (angel since February 5, 2003), Ephraim, and Samantha Bennett; and Cecilia and Leila Warren. He was also “Pappy” to 2 great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Emmaleigh Mercer.
He was also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Timmy and Patty Slaughter, Denzil and Becky Slaughter, and Jan and Dwain Griffin; nieces and nephews Trish and spouse Zach, Larkin and spouse Kate, Carrie and spouse David, Adrianna, Deiland, Philip and spouse Lacey, and Aaron.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Metheny; and brother-in-law, Daniel Slaughter.
Friends are invited to gather in support of the family at McCulla Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 25th from 5-8 pm and again on Thursday, from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service with Don Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery with full military honors conferred by Westover VFW #9916 and WVANG Military Honors, Camp Dawson.
